Bangladesh: At least 16 die as garment factory catches fire in Dhaka

At least 16 people have died in a devastating fire at a garment factory in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, on October 14, Samaa.tv reports.

Authorities warned that the death toll could rise as rescue operations continue.

The fire broke out around noon at a four-story garment factory in the Mirpur area. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly three hours before bringing it under control, though a nearby chemical warehouse continued to burn into the evening.

According to the Bangladesh Fire Service, sixteen bodies were recovered from the scene, severely burned beyond recognition.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing small explosions as the flames rapidly spread through the densely packed industrial buildings.
