Belarus accuses Latvia, Lithuania of undermining regional energy stability
Belarus has accused Latvia and Lithuania of undermining energy stability in the region, while asserting that Belarus and Russia are working together to strengthen it.
Maxim Ryzhenkov, Belarusian Foreign Minister, made these remarks, emphasizing that Belarus is developing its energy infrastructure and collaborating with Russia to enhance regional energy security, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
“Meanwhile, our neighbors – Lithuania and Latvia – are actively cutting off these energy links,” Ryzhenkov stated.
The comments follow a decision by the Baltic States in July to withdraw from the unified power grid known as BRELL, which connects Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The Baltic States plan to disconnect by February 2025. Belarus has labeled this move as politically motivated but insists that it will not disrupt the operation of its energy system.
