Israeli Air Force strikes central Beirut
The Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike on the Aisha Bakkar district in central Beirut, according to a source in Lebanon’s civil defence service cited by TASS.
The missiles hit a multi-story building, sparking a fire. Firefighters and ambulances were dispatched to the scene. The source suggested that the likely target of the strike was a senior member of the Shiite militant group Hezbollah.
Residents of Aisha Bakkar had not been evacuated beforehand. The district currently houses a significant number of refugees who recently arrived from southern Lebanon.
On March 10, the Israeli military reported killing the commander of Hezbollah’s “Nasser” unit in Lebanon.
A day earlier, Israel Defense Forces spokesperson General Effie Defrin stated that Israeli forces had struck around 700 targets across Lebanon during operations against Hezbollah, including over 50 targets in Beirut alone, of which 35 were high-rise buildings.
