Belarus president praises Trump’s peace efforts, calls for Nobel nomination if he ends wars

07 November 2024 17:55

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has affirmed his support for former US President Donald Trump, stating that if he manages to end global conflicts, he should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Speaking to reporters during a visit to the third firewood chopping championship among media outlets, Lukashenko emphasized that Trump’s promise to end wars, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, should be honored, Caliber.Az reports citing Belarus media.

“If he does that, we will send a petition [to nominate him] for the Nobel Peace Prize. He will get it for doing a good deed. I have hope that he will fulfill his promises. But America is not Belarus: they may forget things. But we hope that he will keep his promise,” the Belarusian leader stated.

However, Lukashenko also acknowledged that the conflict in Ukraine is a complex issue that requires cooperation from all parties involved, including both Russia and other global powers.

Despite his optimism, Lukashenko cautioned that America’s political landscape could make it challenging for Trump to fulfill his promises, given the unpredictable nature of US politics.

Shifting focus, Lukashenko also commented on US Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he described as a "heroic woman" following her defeat in the 2024 presidential race.

Lukashenko noted that while Harris had worked tirelessly during the campaign, America was not yet ready to elect a woman as president.

“America was ripe to elect a black president but America is not ripe yet to elect a woman. America is not ready for it. And she was on par with this ‘bulldozer’. She did everything possible and impossible. She did great. This is why she shouldn’t cry in any case.”

In contrast to the recent protests following the 2020 election results, Lukashenko praised the Democratic Party for not inciting violence or unrest after their defeat, saying it should serve as a lesson for opposition groups, including those in Belarus.

“If you lose, be ready to continue working. It is a good example for the entire world on the part of the Democratic Party,” the president added.
