Belarus president: Without Macron, Armenia to be forgotten

20 August 2024 10:36

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko believes that some states that emerged in the post-Soviet space are trying to benefit from cooperation with Russia without offering anything in return.

He made this statement in an interview with a Russian TV channel, according to Caliber.Az.

"We are effectively in the same boat with Russia. If it capsizes, we will sink together. We should not hide our allied relations. We do not behave like some other states that only want to take from Russia without giving anything back," Lukashenko said.

The head of state added that such a situation cannot continue. "Let's work together. The time is not far off when you will have to turn to Russia for support. In the event of a crisis, as was the case in Kazakhstan, everyone turns to Putin for help. And we (the CSTO) quickly responded by sending forces there and calming the unrest," he noted.

He expressed confidence that in emergency situations, CIS countries will once again turn to Russia and Belarus for help. The president also emphasized the importance of maintaining economic ties in the post-Soviet space. "Who is waiting for goods from Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan in America or the EU? No, they are eager to sell to Russia. We have a common market, and losing it is impractical," Lukashenko added.

Additionally, he commented on the situation in Armenia: "Who needs the Armenians besides us? No one. Let them develop their economy and rely on their own resources. What France or Macron? Tomorrow he will be gone, and everyone will forget about Armenia," he concluded.
