Belarus to enhance customs control at Russian border
Belarus is set to bolster customs oversight on its border with Russia, as announced by Vladimir Orlovsky, Chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC).
In an interview with the Belarusian state TV channel, Orlovsky detailed that while advanced inspection equipment has long been in use at Belarus’s western border checkpoints for scanning vehicles and luggage, there is now a push to extend these practices to the eastern border as well, Caliber.Az reports.
“We have been effectively using this technology for a long time at our western border checkpoints,” Orlovsky noted. “Currently, we’re implementing similar measures in Minsk and planning to deploy scanners at our eastern customs houses in Vitebsk and Mogilev regions soon.”
The decision to enhance customs control comes in response to the increased volume of goods crossing the Belarus-Russia border. Despite these goods being foreign, their entry through Russian territory necessitates heightened scrutiny by Belarusian authorities.
