Biden accuses Trump for undermining democracy, bowing to Russia A 68-minute fiery speech
President Joe Biden delivered a passionate State of the Union speech, outlining his case for re-election.
He accused Donald Trump of jeopardizing democracy, cosying up to Russia, and obstructing a bill addressing US immigration challenges, Caliber.Az reports, citing Reuters.
Biden drew sharp contrasts with his Republican rival, addressing issues such as the Capitol assault, ties with Russia, and border restrictions.
During the 68-minute speech, Biden emphasized his commitment to an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East between Hamas and Israel, warning against using aid to Gaza as a bargaining chip.
While not mentioning Trump by name, Biden criticized his predecessor for inviting Putin to invade NATO nations and labelled such actions as "outrageous, dangerous, and unacceptable."
The president also addressed Ukraine, seeking additional funding and sending a message to Putin that the US will not abandon the conflict. In response, Trump criticized Biden on his Truth Social platform, alleging appeasement to the Russian leader.
Biden used the opportunity to outline his vision for another term, discussing abortion rights, the economy, and engaging in banter to address concerns about his age and mental acuity. The speech included a moment of confrontation when Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene heckled Biden over a recent incident involving an immigrant allegedly responsible for a killing. Biden acknowledged the incident and linked it to broader efforts to address gun violence.
He also went on to chastise Republicans for seeking to repeal provisions of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and increase the budget deficit, and chided them for taking money from laws they opposed.
