Europe unlikely to guarantee Ukraine’s security, says former French diplomat
Europe is unlikely to ensure Ukraine’s security because it is not prepared to do so, according to Pierre Lellouche, former French Secretary of State for European Affairs.
Speaking to CNews, Lellouche said, “All of Europe has massively disarmed. Today, we talk about participating in ensuring Ukraine’s security, but how exactly? So far, rearmament has not even begun. Only two countries in Europe have truly allocated serious funds for this: Poland—with European money, by the way—and Germany, which has its own resources."
"As for us [France] and the British, we are lagging due to lack of funds. So it’s easy to say we take responsibility for Ukraine’s security, but how?”
He added that the United States “no longer wants to fight or supply weapons, and now the main burden falls on Europeans, who are not ready for it, neither militarily nor economically.”
