Ukraine declares Day of Mourning in Kharkiv after deadly Russian strikes
The city of Kharkiv, Ukraine, has declared a Day of Mourning after Russian forces carried out a series of attacks on residential areas, killing five people and injuring more than 30, including children, local authorities say, according to the Telegram channels of the Office of the Prosecutor General and the city mayor, Ihor Terekhov.
According to the prosecutor’s office, on August 17 at around 23:50, Russian forces launched a missile strike on the Industrial district of Kharkiv, Caliber.Az informs.
The missile hit near a multi-story residential building, causing acute stress reactions in 11 civilians, including a 13-year-old girl.
It was preliminarily determined that an “Iskander”-type missile was used.
The next morning, on August 18 at around 06:00, five drones attacked an apartment building in the same district.
As a result of the strike, parts of the floor collapsed. Five people were killed, including a child approximately 1.5 years old. At least 19 people were injured or suffered shock, including children among the victims.
Terekhov declared a day of mourning after the strike on the residential building. Five people were killed, and another 20 were injured, including a six-year-old child.
“My sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of all the victims. Kharkiv remembers every victim. And Kharkiv will surely endure,” he said.
