Ukraine’s foreign minister calls Washington meeting “defining moment” for peace
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has underlined the critical importance of the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, describing it as a pivotal step toward achieving peace within the year.
Addressing the media during the presentation of Ukraine’s government action program, Sybiha emphasized that this high-profile Washington meeting, scheduled for August 18 evening, represents a significant milestone in the nation’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
“This is a defining moment, where through the fullest mobilization of diplomatic resources, we can bring a just and lasting peace closer than ever before,” he stated.
Highlighting Ukraine’s commitment to ending the conflict, Sybiha noted, “We are exerting every effort to conclude this war within the current year.” He further expressed optimism about forthcoming progress, anticipating a more precise articulation of future security guarantees that would underpin peace agreements.
Moreover, Sybiha pointed to the potential for a trilateral summit involving Presidents Zelenskyy, Vladimir Putin, and Trump, which could also include other key leaders from countries allied with Ukraine. Such a meeting, he suggested, would mark a significant advance in diplomatic negotiations and conflict resolution.
