Blinken: Israel-Saudi talks on normalising relations may fail
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that Israel and Saudi Arabia will not be able to reach an agreement on normalising relations.
Blinken made the remarks speaking at a meeting of the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, NEWSru.co.il reports.
"Saudi Arabia is demanding a ceasefire and a plan leading to a Palestinian state. However, it may well be that at the moment Israel is unable or unwilling to follow this path," the politician said.
The statement was made after the conclusion of the Middle East tour of the US President's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. President Joe Biden's emissary travelled to Saudi Arabia and Israel.
It was reportedly a complex agreement: Israel and Saudi Arabia conclude a peace treaty, Israel agree to promote the establishment of a Palestinian state, the United States and Saudi Arabia sign a military alliance agreement. Riyadh gets an opportunity to develop a nuclear programme.
