Bloomberg: Internet shutdown in Iran strengthens IRGC influence
30 April 2026 18:35
A record internet shutdown in Iran is becoming a key dividing line between the country’s powerful security apparatus and its civilian government, highlighting how the war with the United States has expanded military control over daily life, according to Bloomberg.
The outlet said the prolonged blackout underscores growing tensions within Iran’s leadership structure.
Senior government officials are increasingly voicing open disagreement with the internet shutdown imposed by authorities led by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) two months ago, even as they present a united front against Washington during an ongoing ceasefire.
