28 February 2025 14:03

BMC has secured a contract with the Turkish Defense Industry Directorate (SSB) for the delivery of the ALTUĞ armoured combat vehicle as part of the New Generation Vehicles project.

This agreement, reported by SavunmaSanayiST.com on social media, marks a significant step in enhancing the Turkish military's capabilities, per Caliber.Az.

Under the terms of the deal, BMC will supply 29 ALTUĞ 8×8 armoured combat vehicles to the Turkish Army Command, accompanied by extensive logistics support services. The production of these vehicles will take place at BMC’s Ankara facility, which has drawn attention to its high level of local manufacturing.

Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of BMC, revealed that the Ankara plant is expected to have a monthly production capacity of 8 ALTAY tanks and 10 ALTUĞ 8×8 armoured combat vehicles. The ALTUĞ 8×8, which entered development in 2018, stands out for its robust protection, superior manoeuvrability, and versatility.

Key specifications of the ALTUĞ 8×8 armoured combat vehicle include:

  • Capacity for 3 crew members and 9 personnel
  • Compatibility with a range of weapon systems from 7.62 mm to 120 mm
  • Exceptional protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
  • A removable roof concept allows for multi-tasking on one platform
  • Enhanced maneuverability with 4-axle steering
  • Payload capacity of up to 12 tons, with a gross vehicle weight of 36 tons
  • High internal volume, ensuring comfort for personnel in diverse climatic and road conditions
  • Ease of maintenance, high system reliability, and low lifecycle costs

The first deliveries of the ALTUĞ 8×8 are scheduled for 2027, and once the vehicle enters service with the Turkish Armed Forces, it is expected to be prioritized for export to friendly and allied nations. This move is expected to significantly contribute to Türkiye's defence exports, further strengthening its position in the global market.
