Britain's navy reports new incident off Yemen coast
The maritime security incident occurred approximately 93 kilometres west of the Yemeni coast, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Centre said.
"UKMTO has received information of an incident 50 nautical miles (approximately 92.6 kilometres) west of Hodeidah. Authorities are investigating," the centre said in a statement on its website.
In the wake of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in Gaza, Yemen's Ansar Allah Houthi rebels said they would target Israeli territory and prevent ships with ties to Israel from passing through Red Sea waters and the Bab el-Mandeb strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave was halted. Several companies, including CMA CGM and Maersk, announced the suspension of Red Sea shipping following an increase in attacks on ships.
