Britain's wealthiest family members sentenced to prison For exploiting servants
Several members of Britain's wealthiest family have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in exploiting servants, with accusations including paying more attention to their pet dog's expenses than to the welfare of their employees.
A Swiss criminal court convicted Prakash Hinduja, his wife, son, and daughter-in-law of offenses such as illegal employment and worker exploitation, though more severe charges of human trafficking were dismissed, The Telegraph reports.
Each received prison terms ranging from four to four-and-a-half years. The defendants, whose net worth exceeds £37 billion, were accused of subjecting mainly illiterate Indian workers to harsh conditions at their Swiss residence, including confiscating passports, paying meager wages, and imposing long working hours without adequate breaks.
Alongside the prison sentences, the family was ordered to pay substantial compensation and legal fees.
