Britain to implement largest military management reform In 50 years
The British Armed Forces will undergo a significant reform, marking the largest transformation of the Ministry of Defence in half a century.
The Chief of the Defence Staff will assume command over all branches of the military for the first time, Defence Secretary John Healey said, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
Healey plans to consolidate command of the Army, Navy, and Air Force under the Chief of the Defence Staff, a position currently held by Admiral Tony Radakin. In the existing structure, the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force—General Roly Walker, Admiral Ben Key, and Air Chief Marshal Richard Knighton, respectively—report directly to the Defence Secretary.
Under the new reforms, General Jim Hockenhull, the head of strategic command, will also report to Radakin. Furthermore, the Chief of the Defence Staff will play a crucial role in determining military budget priorities alongside the Defence Minister.
The goal of these changes is to enhance cooperation among the various military branches. Additionally, a new position, Director of National Armaments, will be created within the Ministry of Defence to oversee weapon procurement for all armed forces.
Healey stated, "These important reforms will enable the British military to make quicker decisions, enhance the nation's safety, and provide benefits to taxpayers. The government aims to fortify the UK's defences in response to emerging threats."
