Brother of former Turkish FM dies after gunshot injury

Aydın Çavuşoğlu, a businessman and the brother of former Turkish Foreign Minister and Antalya MP Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, has died after sustaining a gunshot wound in his office in the Alanya district of Antalya.

According to Turkish media, Türkiye's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, confirmed the news.

In a statement, Ersoy wrote: “I learned with deep sorrow of the passing of the esteemed brother of former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Antalya MP Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Aydın Çavuşoğlu.

May Allah rest his soul; I express my condolences and patience to Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, his family, relatives and all who loved him. May paradise be his abode.”

According to available information, Aydın Çavuşoğlu was found with a gunshot wound in his office in Alanya on May 5. The 52-year-old was hospitalised in critical condition but later died from his injuries.

The local prosecutor’s office is continuing its investigation into the incident, and no additional details have been made public.
