Brussels halts visa-free regime for Georgia’s diplomats
11 February 2026 18:01
The European Union has decided to suspend visa-free travel for Georgian citizens holding diplomatic and service passports.
As reported by Caliber.Az, the information was shared on X by Rikard Jozwiak, editor at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
The suspension is set to come into force in early March and will not apply to regular Georgian passport holders.
Among the 27 EU member states, only Hungary and Slovakia opposed the decision. Nevertheless, both countries are obligated to adhere to the EU’s collective ruling.
In addition, similar restrictions targeting Georgia have been introduced unilaterally by the Baltic states, along with Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Italy.
