Brussels prepares for all scenarios ahead of US presidential election
The European Commission is preparing for any potential outcome of the US presidential election, scheduled for November 5.
During a briefing, Eric Mamer, the official spokesperson for the European Commission, emphasised that the Commission's role is to remain impartial, neither endorsing nor opposing any candidate in either US or European election, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
Instead, the focus is on being prepared for any election outcome to ensure the continuation of strong transatlantic relations.
The election features Vice President Kamala Harris representing the Democratic Party, while former President Donald Trump stands for the Republican Party.
Both candidates present contrasting policy directions that could impact US-EU relations, particularly in areas such as trade, climate, and security cooperation.
The European Union is closely monitoring the election due to its potential influence on global issues, emphasising the importance of stability and continuity in the EU-US partnership, regardless of the winning candidate.
For the record, the US 2024 presidential election is set to take place on November 5, 2024. Voters across the country will decide whether to re-elect the incumbent Democratic administration or support a new president. This election holds significant political weight, especially as current Vice President Kamala Harris, potentially representing the Democratic Party, faces off against former President Donald Trump, who is a likely candidate for the Republicans.
The election will include not only the presidential race but also various congressional seats, with all 435 seats in the US House of Representatives and 33 of the 100 US Senate seats up for grabs. Local and state elections will also be held, affecting governors, mayors, and other local positions. Early voting, mail-in ballots, and absentee voting options are also available, allowing voters to participate ahead of Election Day.
