Building collapses during demolition in Istanbul Search Efforts Ongoing/ VIDEO
A collapse occurred during demolition work on a six-storey building on Marmara Street in Haznedar Mahallesi, causing significant damage to the structure and nearby properties.
The building, which had three floors designated as office spaces and three floors as residential units, crumbled during the operation, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Emergency services, including police, fire brigade, medical teams, and AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), were quickly dispatched to the scene. A security cordon was established around the collapsed building to ensure public safety, and search efforts were initiated to assess the damage and search for possible casualties.
The collapse also caused damage to a neighbouring seven-storey building and a parked car. The residents of the affected building, whose third-floor walls were destroyed, and other sections suffered considerable damage, were evacuated. Fortunately, no immediate reports of casualties have been confirmed, but authorities continue to assess the situation.
In the midst of the chaos, the moment of the collapse was captured by nearby security cameras. The footage shows local residents attempting to flee the area during the incident, a car narrowly escaping being trapped under the rubble, and a thick dust cloud enveloping the surroundings.
Emergency teams remain at the site, working to clear the debris and ensure the safety of the area. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
