Bundestag blocks access for seven AfD-linked staffers
Following Germany’s federal elections in February 2025, the Bundestag administration has refused access passes to seven employees connected to the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Bild reports.
According to the newspaper, two of the staffers were employed within the party’s parliamentary group, while the remaining five worked for individual AfD members of parliament. The denial of passes prevents them from entering Bundestag buildings and receiving their salaries.
A spokesperson for the Bundestag administration confirmed that all parliamentary staff must undergo a security and reliability check before being granted building access. Bild notes that if concerns arise regarding an individual’s compliance with these criteria, access may be denied.
The specific reasons for the refusals have not been disclosed, and neither the Bundestag administration nor the AfD parliamentary group has commented. Internal regulations stipulate that security and reliability checks are necessary to prevent potential threats and ensure the effective functioning of parliament.
