Canada grants Ukraine permission to use its weapons against Russia
The Canadian Department of National Defence has announced that Ukraine is authorized to use Canadian-donated tanks and armored vehicles within Russia.
The statement comes amid increasing speculation among military experts about how long Ukraine can maintain its offensive in Russia's Kursk region and the potential long-term impact of the surprise cross-border incursion on the ongoing war, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.
Canada has donated eight Leopard 2A4 tanks, several dozen armored combat support vehicles, hundreds of armored patrol vehicles, and a few M-777 howitzers to Ukraine. News footage has shown a Canadian-made Senator patrol vehicle crossing into Russia.
"Ukrainians are best positioned to defend their homeland, and we remain committed to supporting their capabilities," said Andrée-Anne Poulin, a spokesperson for the Department of National Defence. "Canada imposes no geographic restrictions on the military equipment we provide to Ukraine."
It remains unclear how much, if any, of the donated equipment was used by Ukrainian brigades during their cross-border incursion on August 6.
