Car rams into Christmas crowd in Guadeloupe, killing ten
At least ten people were killed and nine others injured, three seriously, after a car drove into a Christmas gathering in Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe.
The incident happened at Schoelcher Square, opposite the town hall and church, where residents had gathered to prepare for festive celebrations, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
According to Radio Caraïbes Internationale (RCI), three of the injured are in a serious condition.
Emergency services, including firefighters, paramedics and police, were immediately dispatched to the scene. The town’s mayor arrived shortly after the incident and activated a crisis unit to support victims and their families.
Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. Witnesses told local media that the driver may have suffered a medical emergency while behind the wheel, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.
The driver reportedly remained at the scene following the incident.
The tragedy comes a year after a similar incident in the German city of Magdeburg, where a car drove into a crowded Christmas market, killing at least two people and injuring dozens more. The driver in that case was arrested.
Officials in Guadeloupe said further details would be released as the investigation continues.
