22 April 2026 14:09
A cargo vessel was targeted in a shooting incident approximately 8 nautical miles (about 12.87 km) west of Iran, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), reported.
In a statement, UKMTO said: “A master of an outbound cargo ship reports having been fired upon and is now stopped in the water. Crew are safe and accounted for. There is no reported damage to the vessel. UKMTO is aware of high levels of activity in the SoH area and encourages vessels to report any suspicious activity.”
The incident comes amid heightened maritime tensions in and around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy and commercial shipping traffic.
