Cargo ship engine failure halts Bosphorus traffic
30 September 2025 10:19
On September 30, 2025, traffic on the Bosphorus Strait was temporarily stopped after the cargo vessel ARDA, travelling from the Turkish port of Bandırma to Russia, experienced an engine failure.
According to Türkiye's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, cited by Turkish media, the ship was anchored for safety, and coast guard boats and tugboats were dispatched to assist.
ARDA, a 98-meter vessel built in 1984, sails under the Panamanian flag.
The disruption affected shipping in both directions along the busy Bosphorus corridor.
