24 January 2024 11:27

Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), have engaged in a productive meeting with Tatiana Molcean, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

The two sides focused on advancing the ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between the OTS and UNECE, at a meeting held on January 23, in Geneva, according to the official website of the Organization of Turkic States.

Discussions also delved into the successful 2023 UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) Economic Forum, held in Baku under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan.

Molcean emphasized the forum's focus on connectivity in the Middle Corridor between Europe and China, highlighting its potential to contribute to greener, circular, and inclusive economies in the region.

In turn, Omuraliev briefed Molcean on the program of the upcoming “Turkic Week in Geneva” and extended an invitation for her participation in the conference to be held by the OTS Secretariat focusing on sustainable energy, trade and transport in the Turkic region.

Highlighting mutual interest in sustainable energy, Omuraliev underscored the OTS's participation in the UNECE-UNESCAP Connectivity Program launch on January 24.

He expressed eagerness for joint activities in the fields of sustainable energy, trade and investment as well as transport and customs in 2024 through tangible projects such as eTIR and eCMR.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to fostering regional cooperation and trade facilitation. Both parties anticipate result-oriented collaboration in the identified areas of mutual interest.
