China: 8 killed as night-time blaze sweeps through home in Guangdong
At least eight people have died after a fire broke out at a residential property in the city of Shantou, southern China, according to local authorities.
The blaze started at around 21:20 on December 9 in a self-built four-storey concrete house on Danfeng Road in the Xiashan area of Chaonan District, the district’s fire and rescue service said in a statement issued in the early hours of December 10, Caliber.Az reports per Chinese media.
Fire crews were dispatched immediately and brought the flames under control at about 22:03. The affected area covered roughly 150 square metres.
Officials confirmed that eight people lost their lives and four others were injured. The injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, and local authorities said follow-up and support measures are being organised.
