Tunisia coach Sabri Lamouchi sacked during World Cup after match defeat
Tunisia national team head coach Sabri Lamouchi has been dismissed following his team’s defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup group stage, journalist Romain Molina has reported on his X account.
This is the first known case in World Cup history in which a national team coach has been sacked after the first round of group-stage matches, Caliber.Az reports.
The match, played at the BBVA Stadium in the Mexican city of Guadalupe, ended 5–1 in favour of Sweden.
Sweden and Tunisia are competing in Group F alongside the Netherlands and Japan.
The latter two teams previously drew 2–2 in their opening encounter. Sweden’s victory over Tunisia placed them at the top of the group standings.
In the second round, Sweden will face the Netherlands on June 20, while Tunisia will play Japan on June 21.
