China activates flood emergency response in five provinces
China’s Ministry of Water Resources has activated a Level IV emergency response — the lowest in the country’s four-tier system — due to flood risks in five provinces: Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou.
The measures were introduced amid forecasts of heavy rainfall expected to continue through June 25, Caliber.Az reports per Chinese media.
Meteorologists have warned that central and eastern parts of the country could experience severe and extreme downpours, raising the risk of rising river levels and localised flooding.
The ministry also warned of the possibility of smaller waterways overflowing their banks and has dispatched working groups to several provinces to assist local authorities.
Regional governments have been instructed to strengthen hydrological monitoring, enhance emergency preparedness, and ensure close supervision of water conservancy and flood-control infrastructure.
China operates a four-level emergency response system for natural disasters, with Level I representing the highest level of alert.
