China calls for immediate end to military actions in Iran
China has called for an immediate de-escalation of the conflict in Iran, stressing the need to safeguard the sovereignty of all countries in the region and prevent further instability.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had held discussions with his counterparts from Russia, Iran, France, and Oman to outline Beijing’s position and underscore the urgency of avoiding additional clashes.
China condemned the recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran, describing them as violations of international law. Wang Yi emphasized that attacks targeting a country’s leadership and attempts to instigate regime change are unacceptable. He reiterated the core principles of China’s stance: an immediate halt to military operations, the resumption of dialogue, and collective opposition to unilateral actions.
Mao further stated that China supports Iran in defending its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, while also respecting the rights of Persian Gulf states. She highlighted the importance of protecting civilians, saying that attacks on schools, journalists, or civilian infrastructure are unacceptable.
Reaffirming its commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue, China noted that Iran has stated it does not intend to develop nuclear weapons and has engaged in negotiations with the United States in good faith. Beijing maintains that the issue should return to a political and diplomatic track, with continued support for the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and efforts to ensure peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond.
