China denounces former UK PM’s Taiwan visit, calls it “interference in internal affairs”
In a firm response to former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s recent visit to Taiwan and his calls for Western countries to strengthen economic ties with the island, the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom issued a strong statement condemning the trip.
The embassy reiterated its unwavering opposition to any visits by British politicians to Taiwan under any pretext, emphasizing that “Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory” and that “Taiwan affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and brook no external interference,” Caliber.Az reports,.
The embassy spokesperson further warned that “the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits is the separatist provocations by the Taiwan authorities.” They underscored Beijing’s firm stance, declaring, “China will never allow anyone to separate Taiwan from the rest of the country in any way, nor will China tolerate any external attempt to obstruct its complete reunification.”
In their statement, the embassy urged the British politician concerned to “stop emboldening the ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces, cease interfering in China’s internal affairs, and refrain from going further down the wrong path.”
Johnson’s visit coincided with a forum held on the island, where he made what the embassy described as “reckless remarks,” including allegations that “Beijing had engaged in intensified military activities,” which he characterized as “an effort to bully Taiwan region into submission.”
An expert commenting on Johnson’s statements suggested that his “so-called praise for the island can be seen as a compromise of personal integrity and a detriment to national dignity,” asserting that it appears motivated by a desire to justify the treatment he received during his visit to Taiwan.
