China's FM: We hope for sustainable peace in Ukraine
China is anticipating agreements that will ensure a sustainable and long-term peace in Ukraine, according to the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking at a briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, expressed that China supports all efforts aimed at peacefully resolving the crisis, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"China eagerly awaits decisions from the parties involved that will lead to a sustainable and lasting peace, while taking into account mutual concerns," Lin stated.
In parallel, UK PM Keir Starmer has revealed a new four-point plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and bolstering the country's defence against Russia.
- to keep military aid flowing into Ukraine, and to keep increasing the economic pressure on Russia
- that any lasting peace must ensure Ukraine's sovereignty and security and Ukraine must be present at any peace talks
- in the event of a peace deal, to boost Ukraine's defensive capabilities to deter any future invasion
- to develop a "coalition of the willing" to defend a deal in Ukraine and to guarantee peace afterwards
Speaking after a summit with 18 European leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Starmer emphasised the need for a united international response, with the UK, France, and other nations forming a "coalition of the willing" to provide stronger support for Ukraine.
Starmer called on the US to join this effort, framing the moment as a pivotal point in history. Zelenskyy, meanwhile, expressed appreciation for the "strong support" from allies, highlighting the summit as a symbol of "European unity at an extremely high level," not seen in years.
