Climate change remains one of most urgent global threats, Azerbaijani official says
Climate change continues to be one of the most significant global threats, said Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijani President’s Special Representative for Climate Issues.
Babayev made these remarks as he addressed a panel discussion on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Babayev highlighted the success of COP29, held in Baku, as a demonstration of the potential for positive progress in addressing climate change. He emphasized that the conference provided valuable insights into how collaborative efforts can yield tangible results.
He also pointed out the growing interest from countries like Türkiye in hosting future COP conferences, reflecting the effectiveness and relevance of the global climate framework. Babayev explained that this interest serves as evidence of the system’s ongoing success and the shared commitment to tackling climate issues.
Despite the achievements of COP29, Babayev noted that the current focus is on COP30, with Azerbaijan providing strong support to Brazil in preparation for the upcoming event.
"In Baku, we successfully developed a roadmap that outlines key steps through to 2035, which will guide global efforts to combat climate change," he said.
The roadmap includes specific strategies and actions aimed at achieving long-term environmental sustainability. Babayev concluded by underlining the importance of continued global cooperation in the fight against climate change, calling it a critical factor in ensuring a sustainable future for the planet.
