CNN: Iran deploys mines, air defences on Kharg Island
Iran is reinforcing its military presence on Kharg Island amid concerns over a potential ground operation by the United States, according to a report by CNN citing US intelligence sources.
The report says Tehran has deployed additional troops and expanded its air defence capabilities on the island, a key strategic location in the Persian Gulf.
In addition to boosting personnel and air defences, Iranian forces have reportedly laid anti-personnel and anti-tank mines around Kharg Island and along nearby coastal areas identified as potential landing zones for US troops.
US officials cited by CNN warned that any ground operation would carry significant risks, pointing in particular to the island’s layered defensive setup, which could lead to substantial casualties in the event of an assault.
