CNN: US-Iran talks could see new proposal via Pakistani mediation
Efforts to revive negotiations between the United States and Iran remain uncertain, as Pakistani intermediaries anticipate a revised peace proposal from Tehran following the rejection of an earlier plan by US President Donald Trump.
Sources familiar with the mediation process told CNN a new proposal could be delivered as early as May 1. The previous Iranian proposal, which reportedly suggested reopening the Strait of Hormuz before addressing nuclear restrictions, was dismissed by Washington.
Speaking on April 29, Trump indicated that discussions are ongoing but highly restricted.
“No one knows the status of talks with Iran aside from myself and a handful of others,” he said, suggesting that negotiations may be progressing despite limited public visibility.
The US president added that communication with Iran is currently taking place “telephonically,” and emphasised that any potential agreement would depend on how far Tehran is willing to go in limiting its nuclear programme.
