CSTO warns of regional destabilization after terrorist attacks in Dagestan
The Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Imangali Tasmagambetov, has expressed grave concerns about the potential destabilization in the region following a series of terrorist attacks in Dagestan.
In an interview with TASS, Tasmagambetov emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that such events could significantly undermine regional stability, Caliber.Az reports.
"The terrorist attacks in Dagestan could destabilize the situation in the region," stated Tasmagambetov. "The CSTO Secretariat received the news of the tragic events in Makhachkala and Derbent with a feeling of deep pain," he added.
Tasmagambetov assured that the CSTO allies are prepared to assist Russia if requested, highlighting the alliance's commitment to regional security. "The allies will not stand aside if Russia asks for help after the terrorist attacks in Dagestan. Such events can significantly destabilize the situation at the regional level, especially given the network nature of the organization of such extremist and terrorist groups," he noted.
The attacks, carried out by unidentified individuals on June 23, targeted two Orthodox churches, a synagogue, and a traffic police post in Derbent and Makhachkala. The violence has resulted in the deaths of 20 people and injuries to 46 others, including law enforcement officers and civilians. The authorities have declared June 24, 25, and 26 as days of mourning in Dagestan.
