Dagestan sends over 200 tons of humanitarian aid to Palestinians

05 April 2024 20:44

Dagestan has sent over 200 tons of humanitarian aid, collected by residents of the region, to the Gaza Strip since the outset of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Dagestani head Sergey Melikov told a meeting with ambassadors of nine Muslim countries, TASS reports

The day before, representatives of Turkey, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Mauritania, Iran, Iraq, and Uzbekistan arrived in Dagestan to participate in collective iftar (a meal of repast in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan) and take part in religious events.

"We are in harmony in our statements regarding the misfortunes of the Palestinian people. And I have the right to speak on behalf of Dagestan's people. Already from 7 October, from the outset of the tragic events in the Gaza Strip, Dagestanis supported the people of Palestine in their prayers. Subsequently, over 200 tons of humanitarian cargo was collected by ordinary Dagestanis and sent to the people of Palestine," Melikov said.

The regional head recalled that the republic hosted more than 150 internally displaced persons from Palestine.
