Dashnaktsutyun member arrested over attempted bombing of Armenia's ruling party offices
Gagik Sargsyan, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun), has been detained and subsequently arrested for a month as part of the ongoing investigation into the attempted bombing of the offices belonging to Armenia's ruling Civil Contract party.
Gagik Sargsyan's detention and subsequent arrest were confirmed by his lawyer, Vahe Yeprikyan, during a conversation with journalists. Yeprikyan also stated his intention to appeal the court's decision regarding the arrest, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The arrest of Gagik Sargsyan comes after his son, Aram Sargsyan, who is a former journalist and currently an employee of the Ministry of High-Technological Industry, announced the detention to the public. Aram Sargsyan revealed that National Security Service (NSS) officers conducted a search at their house, seizing personal belongings, including a laptop and a memory card from an old phone, without providing any explanations.
A criminal case over the discovery of explosive-like objects near the offices associated with the Civil Contract Party, including the office at 30/3 Gulbenkyan Street in Arabkir district and the office of MP Gurgen Arsenian at 33 Gulbenkyan Street, was opened on February 26. The incident itself took place on February 20.
Four citizens were detained and arrested on various charges, including the article on terrorism.
