Deadly accident in Kazakhstan sewer well claims lives of six workers
Six people have died while carrying out work in a sewer well in the Aktogay district of Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar Region, according to the Pavlodar Regional Ambulance Service.
An emergency call from a local company in the village of Zholaman was received on July 20 at 12:01, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.
Upon arrival, responders found the bodies of six men born in 1963, 1975, 1983, 1998, 2006 and 2009. Another man, born in 1988, was taken to the Aktogay District Hospital.
Regional health authorities said the survivor was hospitalised with moderate carbon dioxide poisoning. His condition is stable, and there is no need to transfer him to a medical facility in Pavlodar.
According to preliminary information, the tragedy occurred while workers were attempting to repair an electric pump inside the sewer well.
The Pavlodar Region Police Department said a criminal case has been opened, and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
