Death toll rises to 14 after migrant boat capsizes off Bodrum, Türkiye
The number of migrants who perished after an inflatable boat capsized in the Aegean Sea near the Turkish resort town of Bodrum has risen to 14, up from seven, following the recovery of additional bodies, the Muğla Governor’s Office said.
Two people survived the incident, one migrant swam to shore while a search operation has been launched to locate the second survivor, Turkish Minute reports.
Bodrum lies close to Greek islands such as Kos, a frequent destination for migrants attempting to reach European countries. The journey across the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas remains perilous, with numerous fatalities each year.
According to the UN’s International Organization for Migration, approximately 1,400 migrants have died so far this year attempting to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe.
