Defence ministers agree to advance Iran–Armenia partnership
Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh stated that relations between Iran and Armenia have historically been founded on principles of peace and friendship.
According to Iranian media, he made the statement on February 24 in Tehran during talks with Armenia’s Defence Minister Suren Papikyan.
Nasirzadeh expressed optimism about further strengthening cooperation across various sectors, with particular emphasis on defence collaboration. During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on border-related issues, security matters, and regional geopolitical developments. The Iranian minister added that ties between the two countries continue to develop at a dynamic pace.
Papikyan, in turn, stressed that Yerevan places significant importance on partnership with Tehran, including cooperation in the military field.
The Armenian defence minister’s visit, which began late Monday evening upon his arrival in Iran, reflects the intention of both sides to deepen defence relations and contribute to maintaining regional stability and security.
