Denmark to trigger drone neutralisation capabilities following airport intrusions
Denmark is set to enhance its ability to detect and neutralise unauthorised drones following a series of alarming drone intrusions that disrupted air traffic across several airports in Jutland.
Danish Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard announced that the government plans to amend current legislation and invest in new technologies to better counter drone threats in the future, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Hummelgaard stated that Denmark intends to purchase advanced detection systems and boost collaboration with research institutions and private sector partners. The goal is to equip relevant agencies with the necessary tools to detect and, if needed, neutralise drones.
He also said the government would introduce a bill aimed at granting infrastructure operators greater authority to disable or shoot down drones when necessary.
The move comes in response to a wave of drone activity that occurred late on September 24 and continued into the early hours of September 25.
Unidentified drones were reported in the airspace over Aalborg Airport and the airports in Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup, prompting temporary closures and heightened security measures. Billund Airport was also briefly shut down due to a similar incident.
Authorities are still investigating the source of the drone activity and have not yet identified those responsible.
