Deportations of Russians from US surge since 2023
Since 2023, the number of deportations of Russian citizens from the United States has risen sharply, according to RIA Novosti.
The agency reports that the largest number of deportations occurred in California, followed by Philadelphia and Pennsylvania.
In the 2021 fiscal year, 80 Russians were deported from the US; in 2022, 68; in 2023, 229; and in 2024, 464. Final figures for 2025 are not yet available.
On March 7, the Telegram channel SHOT reported that mass document checks of Russian citizens—including celebrities who left Russia after the start of the “special military operation”—have become more frequent in the US.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers reportedly insist that Russian citizens appear in person at agency offices to provide all necessary documents. Sources warn that refusal to comply may result in officers visiting the individual’s workplace to take them to the office for a full document check.
