Deputy FM: Armenia values Iran’s stance on territorial integrity
Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan, during an official visit to Tehran, emphasised that Yerevan takes into account Iran’s vital interests when shaping its foreign policy decisions.
Kostanyan met with several senior Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs Mehdi Sanaei, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“Yerevan attaches great importance to Iran’s consistent and public stance on the necessity of unconditional respect for territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the inviolability of national borders. Armenia, in turn, takes into consideration Iran’s vital interests,” Kostanyan stated.
He expressed high appreciation for Tehran’s support regarding the initialling of the agreement “On the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” as well as its backing of the broader normalisation process between the two countries aimed at securing lasting regional peace.
Kostanyan emphasised that the unblocking of economic communications in the region must be carried out on the basis of reciprocity and jurisdiction, in accordance with the provisions outlined in the declaration on the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
At the conclusion of the talks, both sides agreed to maintain regular dialogue on pressing issues on the bilateral agenda.
