Deputy FM highlights Azerbaijan's contributions to mitigate COVID-19 outcomes
On February 28, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov, as part of his participation in the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, met with the head of the UN Humanitarian Coordination Office Ramesh Rajasingham.
During the meeting, the prospects for current cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN Humanitarian Coordination Office were discussed, including the situation in the post-conflict period in the region, as well as issues around the Lachin road, APA reports.
Deputy Minister Mammadov, noting the active work of Azerbaijan in the field of humanitarian assistance, stressed that Azerbaijan both during and after the COVID-19 pandemic sent humanitarian assistance to many developing states. The activities of the International Development Assistance Agency, operating under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in providing international humanitarian assistance provided by Azerbaijan were also noted.
Mammadov, informed Rajasingham in detail about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, including Azerbaijan's peacekeeping and creative efforts in the region, while refuting Armenia's statements about a "blockade" and a "humanitarian crisis" due to protest action by representatives of Azerbaijani civil society on the Lachin road.
He said the regime for the movement of citizens, vehicles, and goods along the Lachin road remains unchanged.
During the meeting, there was also an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
