Deputy mayor of Yerevan detained

Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Gevorg Simonyan has been detained.

Earlier on March 10, employees of the Anti-Corruption Committee searched Simonyan's office. The search was carried out as part of a criminal proceeding initiated in connection with alleged abuses during the coronavirus pandemic, Caliber.Az reports with reference to NEWS.am.

It should be noted that Simonyan oversees issues of health care, youth and sports in the mayor's office. Prior to his appointment as Vice Mayor in February 2022, he held the position of Deputy Minister of Health of Armenia.
