Deputy PM: Armenia, Azerbaijan still in talks over border delimitation

21 April 2025 16:47

Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan has announced that Armenia and Azerbaijan remain engaged in discussions over the next steps in the ongoing process of border delimitation.

Speaking to journalists, Grigoryan, who also chairs the Armenian commission for border delimitation with Azerbaijan, confirmed that talks between the two sides are ongoing, though no date has been set for the next official meeting, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

"There is no specific agreement on the date of the next commission meeting yet. However, both sides are continuing to exchange opinions and proposals in a working format regarding the organisation of the upcoming phases of the delimitation process," Grigoryan said.

In April 2024, Armenia agreed to return four villages - Baghanis Ayrim, Ashagi Askipara, Kheyrimli, and Gizilhajili - to Azerbaijan. These villages had been under Armenian control since the early 1990s. This agreement marked the first instance of territory being returned through bilateral talks and advanced the delimitation of a section of the state border.

By late 2024, approximately 13 km of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border had been delimited and demarcated. This progress was achieved through the efforts of joint border commissions from both countries
