Dutch PM invites Donald Trump for NATO summit
Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dick Schoof has extended an invitation to newly elected US President Donald Trump to attend the NATO summit to be held in The Hague in June 2025.
Schoof personally invited Trump during a phone call, and Trump responded positively to the invitation, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"It is in the Netherlands' interest to assess what [Trump] plans to do and respond appropriately," he noted.
Schoof also reflected on the strong relationship between Amsterdam and Washington during Trump's first term (2016–2020) and expressed the Netherlands' intent to continue maintaining positive ties with the US under his new presidency.
The 2025 NATO Summit will be held at the World Forum in The Hague, the Netherlands, on June 24-26, 2025.
At the previous summit, in Vilnius (Lithuania), allies asked the Netherlands to organise the 2025 summit. This is the first time since NATO’s founding in 1949 that the Netherlands is hosting a NATO Summit. For the Netherlands this is an opportunity to further bolster position as a dependable ally. The summit is a key moment in which NATO makes decisions that are important to peace and security, especially in these turbulent times, with Russia waging a large-scale war on the European continent following its illegal invasion of Ukraine.
The NATO Summit will be attended by approximately 45 heads of state and government, 45 foreign ministers, 45 defence ministers and 6,000 delegates. About 2,000 journalists from all over the world will also be on hand to cover the event. A total of around 8,500 people are expected to take part. The NATO Summit will also include a Public Forum (by invitation), which will be held at a venue within the event grounds.
This is an opportunity for young people, politicians, journalists, opinion makers, academics and experts to engage in debate about the issues discussed at the NATO Summit. Approximately 500 people will attend the Public Forum. The organisation of the NATO Summit is one of the largest logistical operations in the Netherlands in decades. A large number of (government) organisations are involved, such as various ministries, Rijkswaterstaat, the Police, and Schiphol.
