EAEU expulsion impossible under current rules, Armenian MP says

Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) cannot be terminated by expulsion under the bloc’s existing rules, Armenian lawmaker Arman Yeghoyan has said.

Yeghoyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party, said Armenia remains a full-fledged EAEU member and that the only available route for leaving the bloc would be for Yerevan itself to initiate the withdrawal process.

“Armenia is a full-fledged member of the EAEU, and there is no mechanism for expulsion unless the state itself initiates the withdrawal process,” Yeghoyan said.

He also noted that the EAEU’s customs union does not provide for sanctions or prohibitive measures that could be used to restrict trade with a member state.
