Earthquake hits southern Kazakhstan

An earthquake has been registered in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan, felt by local residents.
According to Zakon.kz, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) reported:
“On April 8, 2026, at 22:55 Astana time, the network of seismic stations of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Research and Information of the MES of the Republic of Kazakhstan recorded an earthquake. The epicenter was located 117 km northwest of Almaty, in the Ili district of Almaty region, Kazakhstan.”
No further details on damage or casualties have been reported.
